9th-20th Jun and 26th-27th Jun 2021, 11am – 6pm
Storey Makers studios and elsewhere in the building, Three Storeys, GL6 OJE
We will be hosting a number of artists for the Select Arts Presents open studios trail, with some of our residents opening their doors, and further guest artists joining them. Come to get a taste of our studio spaces and the work being created within them. Here is a glimpse of some of the contributors, and we also have the Ground Works ‘Earthbound’ and ‘Landlinks’ exhibitions running in our gallery at the same time.
Clare Bassett, fine art and jewellery
www.clarebassett.com
Clare has been working for over thirty years creating lithographs, screenprints and oil paintings of monumental female figures. Her prints are limited editions and each one is hand-printed and then hand-coloured in her studios. She works in London and Gloucestershire. She has also created a series of work responding to live dance movement. This rapid, gestural, abstract work is an interesting foil to the studied figurative pieces.
More recently Clare has developed a practice in silver, semi-precious stone and enamelled jewellery. This has been an interesting exploration of a more decorative form of art.
Nicki Schmiegelow, knitted textiles
www.nickischmiegelow.com
Having moved recently to her studio at Three Storeys, Nicki is experimenting with local fibres and developing new work inspired by the Five Valleys wool history. She also continues to produce her signature pieces in 100% lambswool for personal and domestic use.
Susie Hetherington, patterned textiles and lino prints
www.susiehetherington.co.uk
A selection of work by Susie Hetherington
Susie Hetherington is a multi disciplinary designer, inspired by her rural surroundings and the beauty found in nature's fine detail. Her passion for the Arts and Crafts movement is evident in her flowing repeat patterns and methods; she hand carves complex blocks to create her work. Susie's textiles are reproduced as soft furnishings fabrics and homewares, but she also creates stand-alone lino prints. Susie is also the designer for Three Storeys; naming, branding and designing interiors for the venue.
Julia Godden, paintings
www.juliagoddenart.com
Julia writes: "I create emotive, abstract paintings from my own stories and experiences of the world around me. The finished pieces are, however, open to interpretation and evoke feelings and thoughts where you are taken in through the lens of your imagination. I believe the viewer responds to art that is imbued with personal elements and can make a connection. It is my hope that my paintings will elicit and stir many varied feelings in the viewer"
Jo Duck, ceramics
