Gilly writes…
I have always dabbled in painting but not until recently have I made it a focus in my life. Most of my work is a reflection of the places I love and miss, in my home country, Zambia. When looking for inspiration I am spontaneously drawn to my photos of home. I was lucky that my job in Zambia frequently took me into remote areas and being a keen (bird) photographer, took many photos of all the places I drove through. By the same token, I find real joy in the beauty of the countryside around me, but there are many seriously talented artists painting exquisite British countryside scenes that I thought I could offer the African diaspora some scenes of their home country. The exhibition is a very modest reflection of places and a moment in time, that like a shard of light- has simply filled me with such utter joy that I've been fit to burst with the beauty of it.
